County Wicklow – the Hollywood of Europe. County Wicklow has been an extremely successful film location since the early days of film making around the 1930s. It has been used in feature films, commercials, television series and short films. Everything from Michael Collins to King Arthur have been shot in County Wicklow. Parts of Enniskerry were used in ‘Into the West’, ‘Ella Enchanted’, ‘The Count of Monte Cristo’, ‘Excalibur’, ‘Leap Year’, ‘The Tudors’, ‘Camelot’ and ‘Michael Collins’.
We are lucky to have 2 state of the art studios in Wicklow – Ardmore Studios in Bray, Ireland’s only four-wall studio and the recently opened Ashford Film Studios. Famous films shot in Ardmore include Veronica Guerin, Angela’s Ashes, Braveheart and Breakfast on Pluto and of course the ever popular TV series The Tudors.
Film drives have been set up due to the popularity of some of the films that were shot in County Wicklow. So you can now drive along the routes and take in the fabulous landscape and scenery. The three drives are ‘Braveheart Drive’, ‘Excalibur Drive’, ‘Michael Collins Drive’.
